AIF: 2013 & 2014 FLORIDA HEALTH CARE AFFORDABILITY SUMMITS

In coordination with the Associated Industries of Florida (AIF), the Bascom Communications & Consulting, LLC (BCC) team devised and executed a public affairs campaign centered around a coalition of health care and business interests to collectively focus on driving the public policy discussion on the future of Florida’s health care system.

The campaign came to fruition in the form of the first-ever Florida Health Care Affordability Summit that was held in 2013 and again in 2014, which brought together health care and policy experts, from health plans, hospital executives and health care providers, to some of Florida’s most influential employers and elected officials, to discuss the challenges facing Florida’s health care system and the opportunities for change.

During the 2013 and 2014 Summits, BCC served as the media outreach, logistics coordinators, and strategic and communications consultants during every stage of development. BCC assisted in creating an identity and brand for the coalition and effort, focusing on leveraging the inclusion of the business community and business leaders with health care providers, plans and noted experts on the state of health care in Florida. BCC further assisted with designing and executing the campaign’s website, Summit mobile app and online outreach via social media platforms, as well as the coalition and summit launch and roll-out plan. Components of the coalition and Summit launch and week-long roll-out plan included crafting and disseminating a national, wire and statewide news release, conducting a social media launch, assisting with pitching proactive blogging efforts, as well as supportive letters to the editor and opinion editorials.

In addition to the above, BCC assisted with devising and conducting a coalition building and management strategy, managing an online participant and sponsor registration process and database, monitoring all media channels (mainstream and non-traditional) throughout the campaign, submitting daily news reports, as-it-happens blog coverage and executing immediate, rapid response, when needed.

The winning strategy to this campaign was not one single component; but rather, the manner in which all of the components and coalition team members worked together to stay focused, stay on message and maintain a strategic direction. As a result, the 2013 & 2014 Florida Health Care Affordability Summits were a huge success and fulfilled its purpose of providing a guiding force and an impetus for change in bringing about affordable, high quality health care in Florida.
