Sky-high name recognition, party affiliation, a fundraising edge and broad community support from past public service helped propel former Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox back into office.

Maddox clinched the Tallahassee City Commission Seat 1 race Tuesday in a blowout against businessman Steve Stewart, winning 62 percent of the vote. Political observers say that while the race was nonpartisan, Maddox, a Democrat who served 10 years on the commission before running for statewide office, benefited from the fact that roughly two-thirds of city voters are registered Democrats.

Bean tops Soderberg in state Senate race

Republican state Senate candidate Aaron Bean defeated Democratic challenger Nancy Soderberg in a battle for District 4.

Bean received 62 percent of the vote.

“I cannot thank the voters enough for all the support they have shown for our campaign for Senate District 4,” Bean said. “Since Day One, I have campaigned on creating jobs, providing more choices for parents in their children’s education and bringing a marketplace of affordable health care to all Floridians; and now, I have the privilege and opportunity to deliver on these principles for our First Coast region.”

Bradley wins Florida Senate District 7 seat

Rob Bradley has won the seat for Florida Senate District 7 with 122, 119 votes, according to Florida Election Watch. Bradley won Clay and Bradford counties. His opponent, William Mazzota, won Alachua county. Mazzota had 88,631 votes total in all 3 district 7 counties.

Aaron Bean triumphs in Senate District 4

After a long, hard-fought campaign, Republican Aaron Bean, a small business owner and former Florida State Representative, tonight triumphed in the election for the newly-drawn Florida Senate District 4 seat, which includes Duval and Nassau Counties

Bean won nearly 74 percent of the vote in the Nassau County portion of SD 4 and had captured nearly 60 percent in Duval County, with almost all precincts reporting, according to the counties’ elections websites.

John Thrasher wins re-election to Senate District 6

Hutson wins tight House race

Political newcomer and local businessman Travis Hutson was the victor in a tight race for State House District 24 against former Flagler County Commissioner Milissa Holland.

“I’m still very optimistic about the numbers even though it’s not final,” Hutson said Tuesday night. “We’ll see what happens.”

Republican Aaron Bean wins District 4 State Senate seat

Republican Aaron Bean won the newly-drawn Florida Senate District 4 seat Tuesday night.

Bean defeated Democrat Nancy Soderberg, a former ambassador to the United Nations, to represent Duval and Nassau Counties.
